Cotonificio de Badalona began manufacturing hydrophilic cotton as a result of the shortage of this product following the 1914–1918 war. Until 1983, it sponsored the Cercle Catòlic basketball team, which played in the league under the name of Cotonificio de Badalona. In 1992, Cotonificio de Badalona closed down its facilities and COTOFARMA began manufacturing its products in 1993 at its current premises in Calle Sant Lluc in Badalona. From the outset, COTOFARMA has widened and consolidated its range of products, all based on the use of cotton. In 1998, it obtained the EC certification awarded for compliance with Directive 93/42/EEC, which is applicable to sanitary products. It manufactures its products in compliance with the Nª4769-PS operating licence for sanitary product facilities. In 2000, it earned the ISO 9002:1994 Quality Management System certification and has subsequently upgraded its systems to adapt to changes in the standard. In March 2005, a fire destroyed the warehouse in which its finished products were stored and most of its office space. Thanks to its team and the support of its clients and suppliers, COTOFARMA was able to resume business within 48 hours. In 2005, it launched the first 100% cotton pantyliner. In 2008, it put 100% cotton tampons on the market. In 2009, it adapted to the ISO 9001:2008 standard.
